WHY YOU SHOULD NOT WAX YOUR NEWLY PAINTED CAR

Car paint is mixed with solvents (thinner) so it could be applied smoothly through the spray gun. After drying, the paint continues to cure by outgassing the solvent. This process could take up to 60 days depending on the paint manufacturer’s specifications. During this time, you shouldn’t apply wax or other chemicals that may seal or prevent the paint components from evaporating. Waxes and other sealants contain silicone that acts as a trap, restraining the paint’s curing process. The outcome would be a defect called "dye back", a reduction of gloss from the cured paint film. For the brand we use, the waiting time is 28 days before we can safely use wax. Ask your painter about it to avoid the hassle of back jobs.
